Lincoln County 4-H members in Star Valley are hosting their annual Halloween Carnival fundraiser on Monday, October 26 from 5-8 p.m. in the South Exhibit Hall of the Lincoln County Fairgrounds. All community members are welcome and encouraged to support the 4-H cause, providing project-driven education to the youth of Lincoln County. For over 20 years, this carnival has provided fundraising activities for the youth in Star Valley.

Shar Perry, Youth Educator with the Lincoln County Extension Office, shared information about the carnival on the SVI Radio Network. Perry directs the local 4-H board, which oversees clubs throughout Star Valley and South Lincoln County.

“We’re super excited to bring [the carnival] again,” said Perry. “It is our fundraiser, so we don’t have to charge kids to join 4-H.

“There’s enough expenses in 4-H as it is, so we use this money to pay our state dues and our insurance fees for our program up here. It’s a very vital part of our program.”

Each club in the valley plans and staffs one booth at the carnival, offering games, contests, experiences and fun for of all ages.

Leaders of 4-H work to make the program affordable and to make the carnival affordable for families and friends who attend in support of the 4-H. Tickets for each activity are only $1, which allows for participation at each booth and can be exchanged for food and prizes. To promote literacy, leaders also provide guests with a free book when they arrive at the carnival. Guests can expect some comfortable favorites at the carnival, but “we try to add new things every year. We’re going to have our dunk tank again. That was a huge hit last year. We’re going to have darts, and the cakewalk, and things like that, but we’ve got a couple new ones coming in, and it should be lots of fun.”
