With the newly operational Fire House #2 in the Alpine Fire District, homeowners in the northern end of Star Valley may be able to reduce their homeowner’s insurance rates.

According to a post on the Alpine Fire District Facebook page, “If your home is located within five miles of our new fire station, you may qualify for reduced homeowners’ insurance premiums!” Fire Station #2, located at 28 Palomino Dr. in Etna, offers homeowners in the Etna and Freedom communities, as well as many residents south of Alpine, more complete fire service.

“Equipped with 4,000 gallons of water…for firefighting operations,” the new station provides “an additional resource for fire suppression and enhances our ability to respond to emergencies in the southern portion of our district,” the post states. “The proximity of a fire station, along with available firefighting equipment and water supply, can play an important role in determining homeowners’ insurance rates.”

Depending on your homeowners’ insurance policy, “some residents may now qualify for lower insurance premiums due to improved access to fire protection services.” Homeowners living within five miles of the new station are encouraged to contact their insurance provider to request a “review of their current policy.”

In your conversation with your insurance provider, mention that the new fire station is in the Alpine Fire District and is located at 28 Palomino Dr., Etna, WY 83118. The station is operational and provides fire protection services with 4,000 gallons of water available for firefighting operations. “Ask your insurance provider whether the addition of this station and its firefighting resources qualify your property for a reduction in your homeowners insurance premium.”

“Insurance rates and eligibility for discounts vary by provider” and a “reduction in premiums is not guaranteed,” the post continues. “The addition of Alpine Fire District Station #2 represents another important investment in the safety and protection of the residents we serve. By expanding our emergency response capabilities, increasing available firefighting resources, and improving fire protection coverage, we continue working toward a safer and better protected community.”

Though “there are many factors that can impact insurance rates, improved fire protection across Wyoming is going to have a positive overall impact on rates,” said Sierra Booth, Mountain West Farm Bureau Insurance Agent in Alpine. “I’m really excited to see the new fire station. It’s going to be awesome and really benefit the people in Freedom and Etna.”

Booth pointed out that “having a fire station a mile from your house is significant. I have had several clients reach out to me and we have updated their policy. It’s exciting! With all the changes in insurance and fire risk scores, any new fire department is great news! I have seen a positive impact for my clients, and I hope that others can see the same on their rates.”
