The Star Valley Cross-Country teams dominated the competition at the 3A West Regionals, the Lady Braves volleyball team split with their Bridger Valley opponents and the football team remained undefeated on the season with a victory over the visiting Powell Panthers.
Star Valley Cross Country are 3A West Champs
The Braves placed all seven runners in the top 15 spots including the top three spots as they scored 22 team points to handily win the 3A West. The Cody Broncs were a distant second with 71 points and Mountain View rounded out the top three with 87 team points.
Junior Asefa Wetzel won the race with a time of 16:24 and two of his teammates also ran a sub-17-minute race as senior Wesley Kallgren (16:40) and freshman Peter Visser (16:53) placed second and third respectively. Taylor Horsley (17:40) and Trevor Clark (17:48) rounded out the varsity scores but the depth of the Braves was on display as Jesse Loveland ran a 17:52 and Spencer Angell ran a 18:07 to place 10th and 15th respectively overall.
Not to be outdone, the Lady Braves also won the 3A West and put all seven runners into the top 14 spots overall. The ladies finished with a team score of 29, outpacing the Cody Fillies who were second with a total of 55. Riverton rounded out the top three with a team score of 114.
Freshman Jacie Angell was second overall to lead the Lady Braves with a time of 20:58. Teammate Martha Pieper was third with a 21:03. Cody’s Baylee Stafford won the women’s race with a time of 20:19. The pack of Emmy Heywood, Lacy Coles and Brooke Kallgren finished 7-9 respectively for Star Valley. Shaelee Angell and Emma Thomson finished 11th and 14th overall.
The cross-country teams will both be looking to defend state titles from a year ago in Sheridan this next weekend. The Braves will be gunning for their sixth consecutive title while the Lady Braves will be looking to repeat for the first time in program history.

Lady Braves fall to Lyman; defeat Mountain View
The volleyball team, ranked #4 in the latest wyopreps.com Coaches & Media poll, ran into #3 Lyman on the Eagle court on Thursday as they fell in a sweep, 21-25, 22-25 & 22-25.
The spikers bounced back with a 3-1 victory on Friday on the home court over Mountain View. Star Valley took games one and two, 25-17 & 25-18. The Buffalos avoided the sweep with a 21-25 game three win before the Lady Braves claimed the win in game four, 24-14
It is a busy week for the squad as they travel to Jackson Hole High School on Tuesday, October 17, to face the 4A Lady Broncs before returning home on Friday, October 20 for senior night against the visiting Pinedale Lady Wranglers.
Braves move to 8-0 on the season with a 40-7 victory over Powell
Star Valley won their 14th consecutive game as they jumped out to a 33-0 halftime lead over the visiting Panthers on the Braves’ senior night.
Hunter Jacobson rushed 16 times for 124 yards and a touchdown to lead the running game. Josh Dawson added 12 runs for 100 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Payton Erickson passed for over 100 yards and two touchdowns. Finally, Cosmo Morgan rushed for his first career touchdown in the fourth quarter.
The win sets up a big road game in Green River to wrap up the regular season. The winner will win the 3A West and potentially host two playoff games. The loser will finish as the #2 seed out of the 3A West and host in the first round.
