Evacuation ordered for Hoback Ranches due to Roosevelt Fire

Several fires are burning in the area and the Sublette County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) has ordered the evacuation of Hoback Ranches due to the Roosevelt fire. The SCSO announced via their Facebook page that the Red Cross is set up at the LDS Church in Pinedale to assist with those affected by the evacuation.

The evacuation order is for the Upper Hoback, Rolling Thunder and Jim Bridger Estates.

The Roosevelt Fire was discovered on September 16 approximately 32 miles south of Jackson and has burned more than 5,000 acres according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The Bridger-Teton National Forest has ordered an Incident Management Team to assume command of the Roosevelt Fire. Great Basin Team 6 assumed command of the Roosevelt Fire today at 6 p.m. on September 18, led by Incident Commander Jeff Knudson. The Incident Management Team is comprised of individual s from several agencies working within the Great Basin (Idaho, Nevada, Utah and Wyoming.)

According to information released by forest service officials, “This is a full-suppression fire by utilizing nature barriers, these barriers will aid in slowing the fire growth. The top priority for the Incident Management Team is the safety of fire personnel and the public.”

The Fire Team will be working out of the Big Piney and Pinedale Ranger District offices.
