Wyoming Beef Council Stands with First Lady Against Childhood Hunger
CHEYENNE- The Wyoming Beef Council (WBC) joined hands and efforts with First Lady Jennie Gordon last Friday in her fight against childhood hunger. Knowing that many children depend on nutrition from school lunch programs, WBC donated one-thousand packages of beef sticks and summer sausage to the Friday Food Bag Foundation for school children to have during the upcoming spring break. WBC executive director, Ann Wittmann, joined first lady Jennie Gordon, Governor Mark Gordon, and other volunteers in filling more than 900 bags of food for students who qualify for free and reduced-price lunch in Laramie County School District 1.
WBC applauds the first lady’s plans to focus her energies on childhood hunger in Wyoming. As a rancher, she is one of many beef producers dedicating to raising an enjoyable nutritious choice for schools, homes, and other eating establishments.
“The issue of childhood hunger is almost overwhelming in its size and complexity,” said Wittmann. “We feel, as others, that our efforts are just a drop in the bucket, but we continue to share beef’s nutrition as often as possible. The beef we were able to donate will provide protein, iron and zinc, which are often lacking in diets of kids and teens.”
Beef is an excellent source of protein and supplies 10 essential nutrients including B-vitamins, zinc, and iron that support an active and healthy lifestyle. The nutrients in beef provide our bodies with the strength to thrive throughout all stages of life.
