SVHS Singcopation performs at 2020 Wyoming State Legislative Session

◆ Students take tour of the Capitol, the students sang for the House and Senate.

As part of the tour, the choir had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and they visited with Jillian Balow, the Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction.

Singcopation, the SVHS select show choir, was invited to sing on the Wyoming House and Senate floors in the current legislative session on Monday, February 17.

“It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I am so excited we got to represent Star Valley at our capitol,” said Duncan Elder, choir president.

Upon arrival, the choir received a tour of the newly remodeled capitol building from leaders who represent this region of Wyoming.

“We were warmly greeted by House Representative Evan Simpson, Senator Dan Dockstader, and Chief Energy Advisor Randall Luthi,” said Kari Allred, choir instructor. “Everyone we came in contact with that day at the capitol was so welcoming and enthusiastic towards the students.”

As part of the tour, the choir had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon and they visited with Jillian Balow, the Wyoming Superintendent of Public Instruction.

“It was so wonderful for the students to see how much Evan Simpson and Dan Dockstader care about them and care about the job that they do for us in Cheyenne,” said Allred. “One particular moment was special when we were inside the original, restored room where the bill for women’s suffrage was signed. There was a special feeling and a moment of pride that all the students felt.”

Following their personal tour, the choir sang on both the House and Senate floors. They performed their arrangement of The National Anthem, ‘Run to You’ by Pentatonix, a Bon Jovi medley, and ‘Can’t Help Falling in Love.’

Elsie England, a choir participant, observed, “I learned that politicians are normal people that like to have fun too!”

“It was a wonderful experience to perform there, sharing our talents and passions,” said Allred. “The students were able to thank the individuals who are working hard for their futures.”
