Kemmerer City Administrator Brian Muir says all things are going smoothly right now as subcontractors are beginning their drilling without any red flags.

He says they will be there for at least another month or so.

“We have about 50 employees or so here doing the drilling,” Muir said. “Everything is going according to plan as far as I know.”

He says next year he anticipates 150 workers coming into the community which will begin actual construction on the testing facility. It will be a test laboratory using the Natrium technology which utilizes sodium to cool the reactors.

“That’s actually going to be a permanent structure with permanent jobs as well,” Muir said. “So, that’s in motion.”

He says the big thing is they are trying to prepare for the housing needs that the project will come with.

“Working with a number of developers who are interested in investing in the community,” Muir said. “We’re just trying to do what we can to provide the services to them as they are doing that.”

He says he is excited about what the project has already done for the community.

“We went from having a little bit of a housing surplus to not having enough housing,” Muir said. “I think that’s a good problem to have than the reverse.”
