◆ Fire truck drive through Dec. 18.

Private First-Class Hank Winder from Afton and Private Matt Floyd from Cokeville have returned home from 22 weeks of Army infantry training at Fort Benning, Georgia.

These young men will join our local National Guard Unit.

The homecoming soldiers will be welcomed back on Afton’s main street, Sunday, December 18, via a fire truck drive through at 5 p.m.

The family reports public is invited to “come out and cheer them on and show appreciation for our local heroes who fight to defend our state and country.”

At the same time a “shoes for soldiers” drive will be held. A recruiter in Oklahoma advises some recruits are reporting in cowboy boots for training because of poverty challenges in some areas.

If you have extra, gently used sneakers in men’s and women’s sizes consider donating them for soldiers. There will be a box out- side the Winder House (across from Burger king) until December 18. Please put the shoes in a box labeled with their size and if they’re specific for women or men. If you don’t have shoes and would like to donate money for shoes or shipping, feel free to drop off an envelope or contact Kimberly Winder for other options.

If you are a member of the military the family invites you to join the returning soldiers at the armory Sunday December 18, at 5 p.m. to welcome these new soldiers back home.
