Justin Moyes ranks 2nd in the 2A west in scoring this season on the court, putting up a little over 17 points per game and has the Panthers ranked in the most recent WyoPreps coaches and media poll in the top 5. Moyes talks about how the team has set its sights on finishing the season strong despite perhaps a slow start to the year and while the team’s record is currently sitting at 10-5, but a good chunk of those losses are to Idaho schools and teams in different levels such as 3A or higher.

This is a group that has playing together for many many years, with Moyes claiming that a majority of these boys have been playing together since they were children and the chemistry has certainly shown itself here as the season has gone on. The ball movement is what Justin most credits for his and the teams overall scoring success a huge part of that is teammate Jack Dayton who leads the entire 2A in assists and ranks top 5 in steals as well and Justin believes that having a team of excellent passers and a tenacious defense that creates takeaways are the primary reason he gets so many open looks.

Moyes also ranks 3rd in free throw percentage in the state of Wyoming 2A division which helps of course as well but on top of that teams can’t seem to stop sending him to the charity stripe as of the entire top 10 in FT %, Moyes has by a wide gap the most FT attempts. Justin also dove into the culture of Cokeville sports during the interview and how the wrestling team is a huge part of the Basketball teams cheering section and they make sure to return the favor as sports participation in Cokeville has always been so high which creates a good strong sports culture on its own but believes that because everyone is usually playing a sport of some kind, having the other student athletes supporting the other teams is incredibly important.

Justin says that after high school he isn’t picky about where he would be willing to play he just wants to keep playing “the excellent game of basketball” at whatever level he has to to be able to do that. “You always want to go D1 but if you have to start somewhere small and work your way up that’s fine too” was Moyes exact thoughts on being able to keep his basketball career going after high school.
