The Wyoming Department of Transportation has planned a crack sealing project for areas of Star Valley in the coming weeks. Stephanie Harsha, Public Relations Specialist for WYDOT, said the project will begin in in Rock Springs but will work it’s way into both Sublette and Lincoln Counties. The project is scheduled to begin on Monday, April 10 and last roughly two months, but it is unclear exactly when crews will reach the Star Valley area as the project is dependent on weather conditions.
Once crews reach Star Valley, the project will include US Highway 89 south of Afton, from mileposts 75 to 82, as well as WYO 237 between Grover and Auburn from mileposts 0 to 3.2.
Harsha said drivers are advised to expect delays up to 15 minutes as traffic will be reduced to an alternating single lane with flaggers.
Crack sealing is used as a defense against pavement deterioration. If done effectively, crack sealing keeps water from entering and weakening the base or sub-base of the roadway. The completion date for this district-wide project is May 31, 2023.
A similar project is expected to take place in south Lincoln County west of Kemmerer.
