According to multiple reports a 30-year old man has been found dead inside a jet engine Monday night at the Salt Lake City International Airport. Police statements confirm the man was able to make his way onto the tarmac prior the result. 

According to SLC Police, the man was in A concourse and had been reported to been causing a disturbance. The man then used an emergency exit door that gave him access to the airfield which tripped an alarm that immediately notified airport security. 

The police report stated that the man ran to the south end of the west runway where de-icing operations were underway for a Delta aircraft scheduled to fly from SLC to San Franciso. The Airbus A220-100 aircraft had 95 passengers, two pilots and three flight attendants on board when the man crawled into the engine area. The engine was not running at the time. 

Authorities found the man approximately 15 minutes later “unconscious and were not able to revive him,” according to the statement. The cause of death is currently unknown and the man’s name is being withheld pending the notification of family members. 

The incident is under investigation, and airport officials said they are working with the Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation Safety Board, Salt Lake Police and Transportation Security Administration.
