The Lincoln County School District (LCSD) No. 2 Board of Trustees met in their regular meeting on May 8, 2024. Some of the items that were discussed included:

• The completion of a home constructed by area students in the Honeybee subdivision south of Afton has been completed. An open house is scheduled to take place on Thursday May 23, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at 153 Honeybee Lane. The project was a partnership with the LCSD No. 2 Education Foundation and other area businesses such as the Bank of Star Valley who donated the tools necessary for the project. Superintendent Matt Erickson praised the area businesses for their generosity in providing the tools and the learning opportunity for the students who will be at the open house to show off their work. Erickson stated that the house is appraised for approximately $415,000 on a restricted deed which means it cannot be re-sold for five years. The proceeds from the sale will be used to fund the program moving forward. 

• The growth of girls wrestling will now be part of Star Valley Middle School. As part of the meeting it was reported that a separate season will be in place for them starting the 2024-25 school year. The season is expected to take place during January and February. Superintendent Erickson noted that the growth of the sport statewide made it time for this change to happen and that interest at the state level has increased from 40 potential girls to more than 250. 

• Discussion about potential changes for schools in the north end of the valley have taken place over the past several meetings as it has been reported by SVI that a Most Cost-Effective Remedy (MCER) study has been triggered at the state level by student population. As this process moves forward, Superintendent Erickson reported that changes have taken place with MCER studies since one last took place in Star Valley in 2018. As a result, Erickson reported that the district has filed a formal request that the Wyoming School Facilities Commission look at several options. Those options include a Kindergarten through sixth grade format, an option of Kindergarten through fifth grade format and the construction of a new middle school and another option of a new Kindergarten through third grade format in Alpine. He noted that the district will be hosting two public meetings so that stakeholders can voice their suggestions. A meeting with the state construction department is anticipated around the first of June. 

• A pay increase for staff was approved as one of the final votes of the evening. During the budget report of the evening, the LCSD No. 2 budget for the 2024-25 school year is anticipated to be $50.8 million.
