• 2nd consecutive year Mrs. Star Valley has won the crown
Star Valley’s Rowena Buehler won the Mrs. Wyoming America Pageant over the weekend, giving her a change in title from Mrs. Star Valley to Mrs. Wyoming America 2024. Buehler is the successor to Rebecca Shanks, another Star Valley resident who won the same title one year ago.
The pageant took place on June 22 in Cody. The competition included a solo interview with the judges that accounted for 50% of the overall score. Swimsuit and evening gown modeling, along with an onstage question, were also part of the pageant.
“There is so much preparation. A lot more preparation than I originally had expected,” Buehler stated during a radio interview before the pageant. “It’s definitely not just pretty dresses and tiaras. You have to really know yourself and you have to be really confident in that person.”
Eight total contestants competed for the Mrs. Wyoming America crown. After winning, Buehler will now prepare for the Mrs. America Pageant which will take place August 28 in Las Vegas, Nevada. She also plans to remain very involved in the community over the next year and appear at numerous events.
Buehler’s platform is to support Libertas International, a non-profit group organized by former Star Valley resident Tyler Schwab. Libertas International actively works to fight human trafficking and child exploitation in Latin America through prevention, recovery and empowering survivors.
“I first met Tyler around eight or nine years ago when I was a freshman in high school,” said Beuhler. “He did a presentation on human trafficking and how there are millions of modern day slaves. For my platform, I wanted to do something that I knew really was important. That’s why I chose to advocate against human trafficking.”
Buehler spoke of the experience she has had so far being involved in the America Wyoming organization. “Women should highly consider doing a pageant. It truly is the most fun self improvement program you can do. And Wyoming America pageants are taking applications for 2025! I’m hoping Star Valley and Lincoln County will continue to keep the crown. But that only happens if someone from here signs up!”
