According to the United State Geological Survey (USGS) a 3.1 magnitude earthquake occurred nine kilometers northeast of Alpine at 8:21 a.m. Friday morning. Information from the tremor indicated that the depth was at 6.9 kilometers. 

This is the second 3.1 earthquake to take place near Alpine in the last week. One was reported by the USGS on Friday August 2 at 4:05 a.m., also northeast of the town.
