• SVXC running Thursday night as part of Homecoming celebration
The Star Valley Cross-Country team continued their impressive season as they traveled to Pocatello, Idaho this past Thursday to compete in the Bob Conley Invite. The second ‘Bob’ of the season after the Bob Firman in Boise, the Conley is an impressive grouping of regional teams and both the boys and girls teams ran well.
The Braves were the standard as they won the varsity boys race with a total of 74 points behind a trio of top finishes. Senior Jase Burton won the race with a blistering time of 15:03.1 with Habi Wetzel second at 15:28.2. Junior Colton Cranney was fourth overall with a 15:52.6. Brigham Hahn and Matt Heywood rounded out the scoring five for the varsity boys.
The Lady Braves were without the services of Gracey Visser but still managed a fourth place finish among 20 teams running in the event. The Star Valley girls continue to overcome the lack of a top-ten finisher by finishing in a pack. Carlee Angell led the team with a time of 20:00.4 which was good for 15th overall with Macy Kennington, Alexis Angel and Kylee Linford all finishing within 45 seconds. A pair of freshmen in Kelsie Dunne and Rachel Smith filled in for Visser with the former as the fifth varsity runner.
This week the cross-country teams will be running on Thursday evening as part of the Homecoming festivities such as the parade and the powder puff game at Braves Field. The runners will be split into two teams and will run against each other in front of the students and parents in attendance.
The race will be around the track at the conclusion of the Homecoming Parade and before the flag football game.
