The Fall sports season is now in the record books with the winter season now underway with tryouts wrapping up this week having begun on Monday. Here’s a quick recap of where the programs are as they prep for the 2024-25 campaign.

—Girls Wrestling: Last season (State Champions 163.0 Team Points) (18 State Qualifers/9 State Placers)

In the two seasons of Wyoming girls wrestling so far, the Lady Braves have dominated the competition including last year’s repeat team title. Cara Andrews won the individual title at 145 while Remington Aullman (135) and Paisley Smith (115) earned All-State. Of last year’s squad, 14 of the placers are eligible to return as seven of the placers including  Smith, Aullman ad Andrews. In addition, Veil Foreman, a former state champ and undefeated wrestler should be a force as well. The team will be coached this season by Kevin Waldron.

–Boys Wrestling: Last Season (4A 5th Place 175.5 Team Points)(25 State Qualifiers/7 State Placers)

Returning for his 26th season as head coach, Eddie Clark does something to start the 2024-25 season he’s never done before; return three state champions. Kimball Parry (106), Tel Parry (132) and Kooper Burk (157) are back in addition to Grant Thomson who placed fifth at 190. Clark’s teams have never finished lower than fifth in a state tournament regardless of class and last year’s effort was only four points from third place. Thunder Basin ran away with the team title with 260 points. In Clark’s tenure, the Braves have finished in the top three of their class 22 times including 11 state championships and seven runner-up finishes. Of the 25 state qualifiers from last season, there are 17 eligible to return.

–Boys Basketball: Last season (20-7) Overall) / (5-1 in 4A SW)/ Coach Matt Shumway (2nd Year)

The Braves had a nice run last season as they battled against Jackson for the top spot in the quadrant and picked up an opening round 45-43 win over Cheyenne East in the state tournament. They fell to Laramie in the semifinals 55-49 before ending their run in a loss to Natrona, 75-66. While the Braves will have to replace some serious firepower from last season including Max Jensen, Simon Gaskel, Kash Lancaster and PJ Horsley, they also return some significant talent as well. Those eligible to return are Smith McClure, Bryson Nield, Cooper Lancaster, Dylan Shumway and Zane Hedges.

–Girls Basketball: Last season (13-13 Overall) / (6-0 in 4A SW)/ Coach Kade Erickson (6th Year)

The Lady Braves went undefeated within the 4A Southwest quadrant with sweeps of Green River, Evanston and Jackson. After advancing to the 4A State tournament in Casper, Star Valley lost in the opening round to Cheyenne East, 50-28. Their tournament run came to an end the next day with a hard-fought 39-31 loss to Kelly Walsh. The Sheridan Lady Broncs won the state title over Campbell County. The Lady Braves will have to replace a significant part of their offense especially the departure of Kenlee Engelhardt. Players eligible to return with significant varsity experience include Torrie White, Ambrey Nelson, Austyn Bagley, Kambree Johnson and Emily Dana.
