Afton Freedom Festival cancels many activities due to health orders

One of the biggest events of the Afton Freedom Festival was the Fish Scramble which obviously does not adhere to current Health Department guidelines.  Area fish scramblers will have to look forward to 2021. (SVI Photo by Dan Dockstader)

Another annual summer event has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as it pertains to orders from the Wyoming Department of Health and Lincoln County officials.

The Afton Freedom Festival, formerly Crazy Days, has taken place most years for many decades but will not happen in the summer of 2020. The Town of Afton released the following statement via their Facebook page.

“Due to the Wyoming State Health Orders and circumstances beyond our control the Town of Afton is not holding some of its normal Freedom Festival events. The Town will instead be hosting a Night Golf tournament on the 3rd of July and a large firework display on the night of the 4th of July. We encourage all residence and business owners throughout the community to celebrate the 4th of July by proudly displaying your American Flags. The Town is also working on organizing a Chalk the Walk Campaign the week before the 4th of July and a “That’s Afton” Photo Campaign to encourage everyone to submit photos of their favorite spots in and around Afton. More details to come”
