The Town of Alpine steps into 2025 with changes to the town council. Shay Scaffide replaces  retiring councilman Frank Dickerson. Scaffide was elected in November, while Andrea Burchard was re-elected at the same time. They join council-members Jeremy Larsen and Emily Castillo. All are serving with Mayor Eric Green on Alpine’s governing body. Dickerson was honored at the final Alpine Council Meeting for 2024 in December.

With the new council, Mayor Eric Green said they are preparing the town for growth in 2025. Noting the opening meeting on Jan. 7, the mayor advised, “We have a few things we are looking at. We’re hopefully hiring a consultant for a new master plan for the town of Alpine. And then after that we are hiring a consultant to help us with our impact fees.” The Mayor offered the new year’s plans during an interview on the SVI Media Weekday Wake-up program (KRSV 98.7, Star Valley and KDWY 105.3 Kemmerer/Diamondville/Bridger Valley) the final week of December. He added, “It’s my understanding since becoming mayor, you really have to plan if you want to get anything done and that’s what we are doing right now. We are trying to do as much planning as possible. “

The planning is designed to address growth in one of Wyoming’s rapidly growing communities. “Growth is such a difficult thing. Growth is going to come no matter what,” the Mayor said. “The master plan will help us say where the growth should happen and where the density should happen.”

Mayor Green said his emphasis has always been developing a community to accommodate growth. “Since day one, since becoming mayor, I have been saying I want people living and working in Alpine,” he said. “To do that we are going to have to have more office space, more places for businesses and the master plan will help us say where all the future growth should happen.”

With the planning, the proposed charter school for Alpine will be a part of the planning. The mayor acknowledged the work of the local board tasked with locating the school, already approved by the Wyoming State Charter Board.

“The charter board is working to decide where the best place should be for the charter school and obviously one of the options is on the town land that we have near the fire station,” Mayor Green explained. “They are looking at other options as well. I know they want to get up and going as soon as possible.” He concluded, “They are checking all the boxes and seeing what other options are out there. We’re super excited about having a school in town.”
