Here’s a recap of the teams of interest for Star Valley residents for the weekend of November 17-18. Bowl projections are at the bottom of the article.
Fresno State: 13 Wyoming 7
The Wyoming offense struggled without star quarterback Josh Allen but the Cowboy defense kept the game close against visiting Fresno State (8-3). The two schools represent the top two defensive units in the Mountain West and points were hard to come by. Down 13-0, quarterback Nick Smith mounted a rally and a fourth quarter touchdown for Wyoming (7-4) and after another defensive stop, the Pokes had a chance for a last second throw into the end zone but Smith was sacked. UW will wrap up the regular season on the road at San Jose State (1-11) and will then await a bowl selection.
UMass: 16 BYU: 10
The Cougars (3-9) fell behind 16-0 before mounting a bit of a rally but came up short in their ninth loss of the season to the UMass Minutemen (4-7) in Provo on Saturday. Freshman quarterback, Joe Critchlow, threw four interceptions in the loss. BYU will wrap up their season on November 25, at the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (3-8).

The Aggies (6-5) ran for over 300 yards as they reached bowl eligibility for the sixth time in the last seven years. LuJuan Hunt rushed for 111 yards and a touchdown while Jordan Love accounted for two more in the victory. Utah State will complete their regular season in Colorado Springs against the Air Force Academy (4-7) and will then await a bowl selection.

Brett Rypien threw for 300 yards and three touchdowns as the Broncos (9-2) blasted the Falcons. The win coupled with Wyoming’s loss cemented a trip to the Mountain West Championship for BSU. The program will face off against Fresno State in two consecutive weeks with the end of the regular season taking place at Fresno State.
Utah: 30 #18 Washington: 33
The Utes battled valiantly but came up short on the road in Seattle in a loss to the Huskies. UW’s Vincent Vizcaino hit a 38-yard field goal to win as time expired. The Utes will now return home to Salt Lake City where they will host the Colorado Buffaloes (5-6) with bowl eligibility on the line. CU had a bye week as they prepare for the clash.
