According to Mark Gocke, Public Information Specialist for the Jackson & Pinedale Regions, the Wyoming Game & Fish Department received a report of a grizzly bear being shot in self-defense near Pinedale.

Game & Fish officials confirmed an adult female bear with two dependent young was killed in the Boulder Basin area north of Pinedale. The encounter occurred on the afternoon of June 1 while the individual was hiking with three friends and a dog.

According to the report, the incident was reported immediately.

Officials state that while investigating the scene, department personnel were unable to locate the cubs.

No human injuries were reported and the investigation is ongoing.
