The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office closed off a portion of U.S. Highway 89 north of Afton on Thursday afternoon at approximately 12:30 p.m. due to a gas leak.
Traffic was being diverted off the highway at Kennington-Burton Rd. to Rulon Gardner Way by the Star Valley High School.
Businesses in the area were asked to “shelter in place” during the scenario. According to Afton Police Chief Jason Romberg, the recommendation to close the stretch of road came from the Afton Fire Department.
The scene lasted approximately one hour before traffic resumed and the leak was resolved.
