Three Star Valley men were injured on Monday, Aug. 13 when the plane they were riding in went down. The crash occurred early in the day in the Caribou National Forest west of Star Valley.
According to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, the occupants in the plane were involved with survey work in the Smoky Canyon Mine region at the tie of the accident.
Two people were removed from the crash site and transported to area hospitals by separate helicopters.
One person was transported from the scene by ground ambulance.
The pilot is John Craig Koehler, 66, of Afton Wyoming. The two passengers are Evan Zane Hathaway, 29 of Afton and Tristan Brant Smith, 41 of Smoot.
The accident is currently under investigation by the Caribou County Sheriff’s Office, Federal Aviation Administration, National Traffic Safety Board.

Names were not officially released today. The case has been turned over to the Caribou County Sheriff’s Office and additional information is expected tomorrow.
