Kansas man identified in Greys River drowning

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the man who drowned in the Greys River on Tuesday, July 23. According to the LCSO, Mark Osmondson of Madison, Kansas died as a result of drowning approximately 16 miles up the Greys River in Lincoln County Wyoming.

The LCSO and Star Valley Search & Rescue responded to the call on Tuesday where they found Mr. Osmondson in the Porcupine Creek area.

“Osmondson, 70, was fishing with his long time friend and his friend’s grandson when he slipped on a rock, causing his fishing waders to fill with water,” the news release stated. “Osmondson was unable to recover his footing and eventually floated nearly two miles down the river where his body was recovered.”

According to the report Osmondson was a military veteran who was planning to return home the day of the accident.

According to initial reports a 70-year old male has reportedly drowned in the Greys River while fly fishing on Tuesday July 23, 2019.

The incident took place in the Porcupine Creek area and the man’s body was recovered approximately one mile down the river.

The victim is not local to the area and his name will be released pending the notification of next of kin.

SVI is in contact with area authorities and will update this story as more information becomes available.
