Washington – Wyoming Congresswoman and House GOP Conference Chair Liz Cheney (R-WY) joined “The Daily Briefing With Dana Perino” on Fox News today to discuss the vacancy on the United States Supreme Court and Democrats’ efforts to ignore the Constitution and impeach the President for following his constitutional responsibilities.

DANA PERINO: Let’s bring in Congresswoman Liz Cheney, House Republican Conference Chair. Congresswoman, could you listen to Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House, she was on MSNBC earlier talking about Republicans. 

SPEAKER NANCY PELOSI: They’re going to be paying this price for elections to come — elections to come. Everyone is looking at what makes a difference with these Senatorial races, we’ll see, but what they don’t really understand is, they’re going to see 2018 again and again and again in terms of defeats in the Congress.

PERINO: Does she have that wrong?

REP. LIZ CHENEY: Absolutely, she does, Dana. I think the fact that the Democrats are even suggesting that they might move again to impeach the President when he is going to exercise his constitutional duty of naming somebody to the Supreme Court, tells you how desperate they are. This President has named judges that believe in the Constitution, that believe in the adherence to the Constitution, that know that judges are supposed to interpret the law and not make law, that’s what he’s going to do again with this appointment. He absolutely will do it, and I anticipate that the Senate will bring it up and will confirm the nominee, and I look forward to that. 

PERINO: What do you think the consequences for the Democrats talking about court packing or even, of course you know, you’re from Wyoming, trying to abolish the Electoral College because they’re so offended that small states, small population states, have influence and power as the Constitution requires? 

REP. CHENEY: I think the American people are sick and tired of it. The Constitution is very clear: elections matter. The American people elected President Trump, the American people gave us a majority in the Senate, and they expect us all to do our jobs. The more that the Democrats act as though they are willing to burn the whole place down, that they do not believe in the Constitution, the more threats that they make about court packing or trying to somehow abolish the Electoral College, the more the American people are just sick of it. They want people that are elected who are going to come to Washington, who are going to get things done. And all of the things that this Speaker has not done, the fact that we still do not have an extension to the PPP program, the fact that she will not bring legislation to the floor to help people that are still hurting because of the virus, instead she’s out there making these wild claims about what she’s going to do or the electoral consequences of President Trump doing his job. It’s not going to fly with the American people, they are sick of it. They want results, and they want judges, as we have seen with this President, a historic number of judges who fundamentally are going to change the nature of this country going on for generations. We look forward to this battle, it will be one that we know we’ll win. 

PERINO: I wonder also what you think about this, if this will have any effect on the House races? 

REP. CHENEY: Listen, I think that again, across the country, particularly in the swing districts, districts that we know we have to win, that we have to take back. Number one, there are lots of vulnerable Democrats who are adopting the same tactic as Joe Biden, hiding in the basement because their constituents want to know why they haven’t voted on any COVID relief, why none of that has come to the floor to be able to actually pass the Senate and get to the President’s desk for signature. Number two, they are sick and tired of politicians in Washington launching these attacks at each other, they want the work to get done. They want judges, frankly, who are going to abide by the Constitution. So I think the Speaker — it’s not the first time she’s been dead wrong, but she’s dead wrong on this one.
