The Afton Volunteer was dispatched to a home fire on Lincoln Street in Afton at roughly 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 23.
Afton Fire Chief Dennis McDonald told SVI News the fire started in the attic. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the attic space and roof and keep it from spreading to the rest of the home. However, McDonald said the fire still caused “quite a bit of damage” to the home.
While the cause will remain under investigation, McDonald said it appears that insulation touching the chimney may have been the cause.
This is the third house fire in Star Valley over the last few weeks. A Star Valley Ranch home was badly damaged after a fire started in the garage, while a mobile home in Etna was a complete loss after catching fire.
