Extensive damage was caused to a portion of a downtown building in Afton Monday morning. The fire was located above Stella’s 467 Doughbox and Roadhouse, located at 467 South Washington St.

The Afton Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. Thin, white smoke could be seen coming from the roof of the building as crews responded.

Emergency responders were able to contain the fire to an upstairs bedroom.  Afton Fire Chief Dennis McDonald told SVI News that a light fixture on the 2nd floor ceiling started the fire. According to McDonald there was extensive damage to the bedroom. No injuries were reported.

Northbound traffic in the downtown block was rerouted as crews responded.
