Aggravated assault and robbery charges against two men are pending following an altercation that took place in the Greys River area on October 15.
Lincoln County Sheriff Shane Johnson said affidavits supporting charges against Shea Patrice Sanchez, 30, of Green River, Wyoming and Jared Michael Olguin, 35, of Elizabeth, Colorado have been filed with the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office. A warrant for the arrest of the two men is expected to be issued.
Sheriff Johnson stated investigators were able to identify the alleged suspects through descriptions provided by the victims and by searching the area of the reported incident.
According to statements by a family member of one of the victims, who was a Jackson man in his early 30’s, two hunters happened upon an elk that had “likely been down for at least a couple hours.” The two debated on what to do with the elk. So as not to waste the meat, after about 20 minutes the two hunters decided to begin butchering the animal and claimed it as their own.
The altercation took place about 5:30 that evening after the two hunters had returned to camp. The family member stated that earlier in the day the two hunters had spoken to the men who later attacked them. The alleged attackers said they had shot a cow and a four-point elk, which they said was down the road. The elk found by the victim’s, according to the family member, was not down the road and it was a five by six, so the two hunters didn’t connect the elk they found to the one the other men had shot.
An altercation ensued back at the camp and the two hunters who found the dead elk were beaten. One was severally injured, with both sides of his jaw broken and multiple teeth misplaced, according to the family member. The hunter that was not beaten as badly was able to drive the second hunter to Jackson where he was admitted to St. John’s Health with severe trauma. He was released on Monday and is receiving further treatment in Billings, Montana.
