• “Wheeled Litter” results in smooth rescue.
A piece of recently purchased equipment was utilized by the Star Valley Search and Rescue on Saturday night. The new wheeled litter, which is a specialized stretcher device designed for use in rough and steep terrain, was purchased last year by S&R from funds raised during the 2022 Ranch Rodeo.
The rescue took place on Saturday, October 14 when the Star Valley Search & Rescue was paged out at approximately 7:50 p.m. for an injured horseback rider. Commander Matt McMurdo said that man was in the South End area, where his group was scouting. His horse stumbled and the rider flipped over the horse.
“This rescue went really smoothly thanks to the new wheeled litter we were able to purchase because of your generous donations,” stated McMurdo. “This new litter has a smaller wheel, is much lighter, and has a brake for control in steep terrain. We want to thank everyone for the help with this rescue.”
According to Commander McMurdo the injured rider was from Star Valley and was transported to Star Valley Health. No additional details on his condition were made available.
