The SVI Footprint refers to schools that have shown to have significant support in our broadcast area. 

With just one week left in the regular season, here is a look at the college football teams in the the SVI Footprint. 

Wyoming: The Cowboys, fresh off a disappointing outing in Las Vegas, had a near-perfect first half against visiting Hawaii on Saturday afternoon.

The Pokes jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and coasted to a 42-9 final to improve to (7-4)(4-3). Andrew Peasley went an amazing 14 of 17 for 319 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers in the game. Wyoming set a new attendance record for the football program, outstripping the previous high set in 1990 by more than 13,000.

The Cowboys have been quite bi-polar this season, going a perfect 7-0 in Laramie and 0-4 away from the Gem City of the Plains. The program has a chance to remedy that next weekend as they face the Nevada Wolfpack on Saturday in a 7:30 p.m. night game. 

BYU: It was one of the two biggest anticipated games for the Cougars on their schedule this season. A crossover of BYU’s first season in the Big-12 combined with Texas and Oklahoma’s last season in the the conference before moving to the Southeastern Conference (SEC) starting next season.

#14 Oklahoma got all they wanted from the Cougars with the two teams tied at 17-17 at the half.

The big play turned out to be a pick-six from BYU on the Sooner five-yard line returned for a defensive touchdown in a 31-24 Oklahoma victory.

Aiden Robbins ran for 182 yards in the effort. With the loss, the Cougars fell to (5-6)(2-6) and will need an upset road win against #23 Oklahoma State next week to earn bowl-eligibility. The game is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. afternoon kickoff on ABC.

Utah State: In a game between two programs trying to earn a victory to qualify for bowl eligibility, the Aggies were literally run over by the Boise State Broncos who finished with 352 yards on the ground in a 45-10 final.

BSU’s George Holani finished with 178 yards on just 15 carries and found the end zone twice. While the Aggies did get a good rushing effort from Davon Booth who had 125 yards on 12 carries, the home team used three different quarterbacks and a wide receiver who attempted passes and threw two interceptions. Utah State also lost a pair of fumbles  as they fell to (5-6)(3-4).

The Aggies still have a good chance to earn bowl-eligibility as they travel to New Mexico next week for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff. The Lobos will be riding high after upsetting Fresno State. 

#22 Utah:

After a bit of a slow start to the season, the #17 Arizona Wildcats have won five straight in the Pac-12 Conference including a one-sided 42-18 victory in Tucson over the Utes.

Arizona used three different passers to combine for 325 yards through the air and four touchdowns in the win. Utah’s Bryson Barnes finished with 320 passing yards on 53 attempts but threw a pair of interceptions to go with two touchdowns.

The Utes fell to (7-4)(4-4) and have lost three of four but have a chance to right the ship next weekend as they host the Colorado Buffalos. 

Bowl Projections:

As of Sunday, November 19, Wyoming is projected as a candidate to play in the Arizona Bowl or the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. 

Utah is projected to play in the Alamo Bowl. 

Conference Standings:

The surprising UNLV Rebels are (9-2) overall and (6-1) in the Mountain West and with their 31-27 victory over Air Force, are in the driver’s seat to host the conference title game. Boise State, San Jose State and Wyoming are battling for the other spot with one game to go. The Cowboys are currently fifth in the standings. 

The #5 Washington Huskies are undefeated in the Pac-12 and a rematch of their game against Oregon appears to be in the cards barring an upset finish next weekend. Utah is currently sixth in the standings. 

Finally in the Big-12, the Texas Longhorns are on top of the standings with Oklahoma State next courtesy of their head-to-head win over Oklahoma. Kansas State is on the outside looking in. BYU is currently 12th in the standings.
