Trio of Cowgirls Receive All-Mountain West Honors

Barlow and Partyka named to All-Mountain West Team with Schulz Honorable Mention

The Wyoming Cowgirls received a trio of All-Mountain West honors, announced Wednesday by the league office prior to the beginning of the Mountain West Tournament in Las Vegas. UW placed two, Tierney Barlow and Kasia Partyka on the All-Mountain West Team. Rylee Schulz, meanwhile, was an Honorable Mention selection.

Barlow, the 2022 Freshman of the Year in the league, finished seventh in the Mountain West with a .339 hitting percentage. Barlow also finished fifth in the conference, averaging 1.13 blocks per set. Meanwhile, her 3.71 points per set finished just outside the top-10 in the league, as she finished 11th overall.

Barlow recorded double-digit kills in seven MW matches in 2023, with five of those where she recorded 15-of-more. She had a season-high 17 kills, twice during league play. Barlow finished the year with 77 total blocks in conference action as she had seven contests with five-plus blocks.

Kasia Partyka had a stellar season throughout for the Cowgirls, as she finished second in the league in assists per set with 10.26. Partyka orchestrated a UW offense that was fourth in the league in team hitting percentage at .242 and averaged 13.15 kills per set. Partyka also finished third on the team with 61 total blocks (0.90 per set) and averaged 2.16 digs per set, a mark that ranked second-best on the squad during Mountain West play.

Partyka recorded a double-double in four conference matches in 2023 while recording 40-or-more assists in 10 contests. Three times in league contests Partyka led the Cowgirls in digs, very uncommon for a setter, and had four matches where she paced Wyoming in blocks. Earlier this season, Partyka moved into the top-10 in program history for career kills and overall this season, her 10.67 assists per set rank 18th nationally.

Schulz finished the season ninth in the league averaging a team-best 3.21 kills per set. Her 3.71 points per set, like Barlow’s, finished just outside the top-10 as the duo tied for 11th-best in the Mountain West. Schulz had double-digit kills in 11 league matches and had 15-plus five times and went over 20 kills, twice as she recorded a career-high 21 against Utah State (September 21) and Air Force (October 14).

Schulz also finished conference play averaging 2.18 digs per set and had 26 total blocks. The sophomore led the Cowgirls offensively in eight MW matches in 2023 and had five double-doubles on the season. In league play, Schulz hit .222 and had a team-best 252.5 points overall.

The three all-conference accolades this season marks the first time since 2019 that Wyoming has had multiple selections. That season, the Cowgirls had five total, with four being named to the All-Mountain West Team and one an honorable mention honoree.
