According to a media release from Dollar Tree Inc., the company that owns both Dollar Tree and Family Dollar stores, the company has “identified approximately 600 Family Dollar stores for closure in the first half of fiscal 2024 and an additional 370 stores as their leases expire.”

Three Family Dollar stores are located in the Star Valley area with buildings in Afton, Thayne and Alpine. There are 31 Family Dollar stores in the state of Wyoming.

The released information did not detail the location of the aforementioned stores.

Public sentiment for the brand has struggled in recent years. The company was recently fined more than $40 million for a rat infestation at a warehouse that forced hundreds of stores to temporarily close.

“Persistent inflation and reduced government benefits continue to pressure the lower-income consumers that comprise a sizable portion of Family Dollar’s customer base,” stated CEO Rick Dreiling.

Family Dollar has close to 8,000 U.S. stores nationwide.
