• Jayce Lilly currently undergoing chemotherapy.
Various fundraisers have been set up to help a Star Valley family following a cancer diagnosis for their 8-year-old son. Jayce Lilly, the son of Chaz and Gina Lilly of Grover, was recently diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, an extremely rare bone cancer. According to Lilly, Jayce will now endure 6-9 months of chemotherapy and surgeries.
“In the mid-weeks of treatment he will undergo a full leg reconstruction where they will remove the whole femur and replace it with his lower leg bone,” Gina stated on a GoFundMe page. “He will use a prosthetic the rest of his life. Once Jayce finishes chemotherapy treatments and during the last few weeks he will have a lot of physical therapy to learn how to use his leg again.”
As Jayce and his parents navigate the many complexities of mental, emotional, physical and financial hardships this unexpected trial has created, a number of different ways to donate have been established. A GoFundMe has been created to help cover the costs of treatment, travel and lost wages. The page can be found by visiting GoFundMe.com and searching for “Jayce Lilly.” In addition, a community auction page has been created on Facebook called “Fighting For Jayce.” Community members and businesses can donate items or services that can be bid on in the comments. Everything from baked goods, house cleaning services, horseback rides and more have been donated. Also, Hot Shot Coffee Company in Afton will donate all proceeds from sales made this Saturday, April 6 from 8am-3pm.
Any and all kinds of donations are greatly appreciated by the family. “Within a couple days my son Jayce went from a super active 8-year-old boy to finding out he has cancer instead of a fracture or infection, stated Gina. “Our world has been turned upside down in seconds.”
