LCSD No. 2 academic calendars approved by WYDOE

• 2024-25 school calendars become official.

Lincoln County School District No. 2 has received approval from the State Department of Education for the 2024-25 Alternate Academic Calendars.  LCSD No. 2 runs on an alternate calendar, which allows for school to be in session only four days on most weeks, with one or two weeks running five days each month.

“We’re on an alternate calendar both in Star Valley and Cokeville,” said LCSD No. 2 Superintendent Matt Erickson. “[Alternate calendars are] anything less than 175 student instructional days, so it has to go through quite a process.”

Local school boards must approve the alternate calendars in two consecutive school board meetings. LCSD No. 2 School Board traditionally approves those calendars during the January and February board meetings.  The proposed calendars are then submitted to the state school board, and the state’s decision is typically given in May. LCSD No. 2 heard from the state in the final days of the 2023-24 school year that the proposed calendars have been approved, and the 2024-25 school year in Star Valley and Cokeville will begin on August 26. Teachers will return to school to prepare for the new year on August 19.

“We realize that it’s frustrating to families sometimes that it’s in pencil and doesn’t go to ink until the end of May or first part of June, but now we’ve got our calendars approved for the 2024-25 school year,” said Erickson. Star Valley schools will be in session for 162 instructional days and Cokeville will be in class 152 days, maintaining a four-day week most of the year.
