SV Arts Council Summer Events

• Lxi Weber announces the summer plans, starting with Children’s Camp.

Star Valley Arts Council Executive Director Lxi Weber joined SVI to provide information on summer events put on by the group.

Up this next weekend June 27th, 28th, and 29th will be the performance for Children’s Summer Theater Camp which will be Suessical Jr. It will be at the Ford Theatre at 6 PM with a matinee at 2 PM Saturday.

“We had such a great turn out this year,” Weber said. “We had 62 kids that came to try out for this play this year.”

She says you can get tickets through the Ford Theater website, saltriverarts.com.

Next month there will be the Three Rivers Youth Chorus Summer Camp program. She says Janet Erickson from the Council will be leading it. There will be a mini camp July 8th at the Donn Wooden Civic Center in Alpine from 8 AM to 4 PM. Children aged 6-16 will be able to participate.

“Mini-camp is geared more towards younger kids that maybe wouldn’t be up for a full week of all day hours,” Weber said.

She says that will be only $50. She also says there will be the Full Camp from July 15-19th from 9 AM to 3 PM at the Etna Community Center. This will be for children aged 10-16 and the cost will be $200.

“We just feel like the older kids can handle the longer hours and last the whole week,” Weber said. “That will have a performance at the end.”

There will be an Art Auction Fundraiser Saturday July 20th from 7-9 PM at the Alpine Airpark and will cost $25 to get in.

“We have been working for months securing art pieces from all local artists,” Weber said. “We have about 50 art pieces.”

She says there will be different sizes and price ranges for this event. She says the money will be split between the artists and the Arts Council. There will be a silent auction and a live auction for certain large pieces.

“We’re going to have food, drinks, aerial arts, we’re going to have a live painter,” Weber said. “We’re going to have a raffle. There’s just going to be a lot going on. So many art pieces to see, a lot of socializing, it’s just going to be fun. I’m really excited about it.”

The raffle will be $10 with a  chance to win an art piece. Weber says even if you can’t afford some of the art pieces, you do have a chance to walk away with something. She also says the theme of the work will be Spirit of Wyoming. You can get tickets on the Star Valley Arts Council website.

July 26th and 27th there will be the Thayne Chalk Art Festival at the Thayne Community Center. This event is $10-$20 to enroll depending on the size of the square you want to work with. Weber says the theme this year is Heroes and Villains. There will be six different categories broken out by age, family, or business. There will be prizes for these categories as well.

“The public can just go and view it and just enjoy it,” Weber said. “So many people go to that Community Center anyway with all the different things that are in there. So, we’re hoping people can just enjoy the art and people can enjoy creating it.”

The registration for the Thayne Chalk Art Festival is July 15th and you can register on the Arts Council’s website.

Montana Shakespeare in the Park will be at the Kodiak Mountain Resort Monday July 29th at 6 PM and will be free admission. This year’s performance will be Hamlet and there will be a pre-show beginning at 5:15 PM. That pre-show will be the High School Musical cast from this last year.

There will also be the Plein Air Workshop August 1-3rd in Alpine from 8 AM to 5 PM daily. Two professional artists will come to teach and according the executive director they will be painting Greys River, Snake River Canyon, and Palisades. She says anyone can come, no matter the experience level.
