Authorities are investigating what caused a plane to crash into Palisades Reservoir near the Idaho/Wyoming border on July 4.

Sgt. Bryan Lovell with the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred shortly after 5:00 p.m. Boaters saw the incident and brought the pilot to shore. Lovell said it remains unclear what caused the plane to crash.

The Idaho Falls Fire Department and emergency responders from Star Valley responded to the scene.
