Auditions for “Bright Star” beginning August 2

Star Valley’s Community Theater, which produced “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown” in 2022, and “The Drowsy Chaperone” (pictured above) in 2023, will present “Bright Star” this fall. Auditions are set for August 2-3. SVI PHOTO

Salt River Arts Society’s Community Theater is offering “Bright Star” this fall. Auditions are set for August 2-3 from 7-9 p.m. in the Ford Theatre. This year’s production is directed by Camie Rae Garner and produced by Jaclyn Lechner.

Any members of the community 18 and older, who are not currently in high school, are invited to present their audition any time during the two audition evenings. Each candidate should be prepared to sing a musical theatre number or a bluegrass number and will be asked to read a few lines from the script of the musical.  A speaker and a piano will be provided for those who wish to bring a backing track or an accompanist.

“Bright Star,” with Tony nominated music, book and story by Steve Martin and Edie Brickell, is set in the 1920’s and 40’s in the American South and is inspired by true events.

According to Theatrical Rights Worldwide, “Broadway’s ‘Bright Star’ tells a sweeping tale of love and redemption. When literary editor, Alice Murphy, meets a young soldier just home from World War II, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past, and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. With beautiful melodies and powerfully moving characters the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion. And uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tightly in its grasp, Bright Star is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.”

“It is such an incredible experience to work with a cast who become like family,” Lechner shared. “To bring a musical to life on stage in front of an audience is exhilarating.  Being a part of a community theatre, especially here in Star Valley, is so meaningful. There is so much talent, and it’s such a fun opportunity for the community to come together and share those talents.”

Adults who have any interest in being a part of this production are encouraged to audition. Those interested in helping with costumes, props, lighting, or as part of the stage crew can contact Lechner at Jlechner9714@gmail.com.
