A wild fire that began Thursday afternoon a few miles southwest of Cokeville near the Long View Estates subdivision has been contained. Stephen Malik with Lincoln County Emergency Management said the Long View Fire was reported around 3 p.m. on August 1.
The fire involved BLM and private land, but no structures have been reported as involved, and no injuries reported. Cokeville Fire Department and BLM resources, with the assistance of local farmers, fought the blaze with ground and air support. They established a break around the fire to protect homes in the area.
According to Malik, the fire is now reported as “contained” as of 6:00 pm and crews remain on site to deal with hot spots and mop up. The fire was burning on the Wyoming side of the Idaho/Wyoming border, however fire crews from both Idaho and Utah were put on standby if needed.”
Kelly Hoffman, Lincoln County Fire Warden, stated that the effort got mutual aid from the Kemmerer Fire Department and Lincoln County Road and Bridge to help contain the fire.
“The BLM is conducting mop up,” Hoffman added. “They are also conducting the investigation into the cause. It was a group effort and everyone did a great job.”
The fire burned a total of 65 acres, 15 on BLM land and 50 on private land. The BLM is conducting an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Area residents should be very aware that conditions are hot and dry and that temperatures this weekend are supposed to be well into the 90’s as they head into the weekend.
