• “The Highwaymen” has sold out in venues throughout the mountain west.
Country artist, Brett Reid, returns to the historic Ford Theatre this Saturday, August 24, at 7 p.m. for a concert he calls, “The Highwaymen.” Presented exclusively with his solo vocals and acoustic guitar, the concert features classic country hits from the iconic Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson and Johnny Cash.
“Last year, I did a show of strictly country legends,” said Reid in an interview with SVI Media last week. “The Highwaymen” has sold out multiple times at the esteemed Saphire Room in Boise as well as other venues. “I’m a solo guy on this, and [as part of the concert] I tell the stories behind the songs. I think that’s what makes me a little unique and sets me apart from other artists.”
According to saltriverarts.com, “The audience is in for a special treat with a rich song list that includes ‘Folsom Prison Blues’, ‘Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain’, Mamas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys’, ‘Luckenbach, Texas,’ ‘Help Me Make it Through the Night’ and many more tremendous country standards from these four legendary artists.”

Raised in a family of musicians, Reid began performing at a very young age and playing the guitar in grade school. He and his siblings all play most of the string instruments including guitar, ukulele, mandolin and banjo. He spent 25 years with a band in Southern Idaho, successfully playing local gigs in the evenings while members worked their day jobs. “Finally, I retired for good from my vocation as a criminal justice professional, and an educator,” Reid explained. Upon retirement, he decided to take his solo act on the road. “I’ve been really lucky and very blessed.”
Reid engages the audience with pure vocals and guitar, no sound effects or technical enhancements. “I think it’s more of an intimate experience. I don’t have any drum tracks or harmony pedals. What you see is what you get, and I’ve kept it that way on purpose because I think that really allows you to make that intimate connection with the audience.”
Reid’s fans have responded positively to his personal style and manner of presenting his music, which keeps his schedule very full. During the summer, he tours Northern Utah, Southern Idaho and Western Wyoming. Winter takes him south to Northern Arizona and California. Though he is conservative about his performance schedule, he is nearly booked through the end of 2025.
“I think people [who attend this concert] would have a unique experience based on not just the music, but the stories behind these songs,” Reid said. “I often have people come up and tell me that the stories really allowed [them] to make a different connection to the song and it just gave the song a different texture. I would encourage everyone to come out and support the historic Ford Theatre and Salt River Arts. It’s such a fabulous opportunity to have [that kind of resource] in any community, especially in Afton. The cause and the purpose of that entity is just magnificent.”
