Lincoln County Assessor Debbie Larson is encouraging eligible homeowners to apply for the Long Term Homeowners Property Tax Exemption, which provides significant financial relief for long-standing residents. This exemption is available to property owners who have lived in their home for at least eight months a year and have paid property taxes in Wyoming for the past 25 years. Those who qualify can receive a 50% reduction in the assessed value of their property, making homeownership more affordable.

Applications for the exemption are currently open for the 2025 tax year, and homeowners are urged to apply as soon as possible. The exemption applies to properties of up to 35 acres, ensuring that many residents can benefit from this program. However, applicants must reapply every year to maintain their eligibility.

To qualify, homeowners must provide proof of age, as applicants must be at least 65 by the application due date, which is set for the fourth Monday of May 2025. Larsen explained, “The application process is straightforward, requiring background information, documentation of residence type, and proof of years paid on property taxes.”
