NEW ORLEANS (October 22, 2024) – The University of Wyoming men’s cross country program was ranked 20th in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association week four National Coaches’ Poll, released on Tuesday. In the week four Mountain Region Poll, Cowboys were ranked fifth and the Cowgirls were ranked ninth.
At Pre Nationals last Saturday, the Cowboys finished 12th and ahead of eight ranked teams. This finish propelled them from the week three poll where they received votes into 20th this week with 109 points. This is the first ranking for the men since the 2019 season and the highest since being ranked 18th in that year’s week three poll.
Other Mountain West teams in the national ranking were No. 6 New Mexico (270) and No. 19 Utah State (124).
In the Mountain Region Poll released on Monday, the Cowboys found themselves ranked fifth, their first time in the Top 5 since 2019. Mountain West men’s teams New Mexico (5th), Utah State (4th), Colorado State (8th), Air Force (10th) and Nevada (14th) were all ranked in the Mountain Poll while Boise State (8th) was ranked in the West Poll.
The Cowgirls were ranked ninth in the Mountain Region Poll after finishing 32nd at Pre Nationals and ahead of then No. 22 Ole Miss. Other Mountain West teams in the Mountain Poll were No. 4 New Mexico, No. 6 Colorado State, No. 7 Utah State, No. 8 Air Force and No. 15 Nevada while Boise State was ranked sixth in the West Poll.

Wyoming will have one more week to prepare before the Mountain West Cross Country Championships in Colorado Springs, Colo., on Nov. 1.
