TEXT-IN TOPIC RESPONSES: Should Teenagers Trick-or-Treat?

According to a recent study done by Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, the majority of Americans say teenagers should not trick-or-treat. About 25% of responders said kids should be trick-or-treat for as long as they’d like. About 3% said there should be no tick-or-treating at all.

During the Weekday Wake-Up on SVI Radio on Monday, Duke & Dahl asked listeners the same questions. Should teenagers trick-or-treat? Below are their responses.

The Weekday Wake-Up can be heard live on both Swift 98 and The Spur from 7-9 a.m. Monday-Friday.

Yes

They’ll just eat their siblings candy if they don’t, so yes.”

Yes, let teenagers trick or treat. Let them have fun while they can. They will be adults soon enough and have other things and responsibilities to think about.”

I think teenagers put on costumes and are acting nice and not being destructive and why the heck not? Even the same with adults I don’t care.”

Yes ! Let them have fun !!”

All are welcome.”

It doesn’t bother me if older kids want to trick-or-treat. There’s a lot worse things they could be doing. As long as they’re not being mean to the Littles, let them trick-or-treat.”

I don’t get the debate. Let kids be kids. Are they being respectful, kind, and appreciative? If so, what is the issue? Let them enjoy their childhood before they have the full responsibilities of being an adult. If they are legally an adult, then that is the cutoff in my mind.”

Halloween and trick or treating is absolutely a community event and should be including everyone no matter their age.”

There shouldn’t be any age limit.”

They are kids… let them be kids.”

Better have them trick-or-treating in and out cause of mischief.”

There’s just nothing quite like it going around at night getting a bunch of candy.”

18 should be the cut off.”

I say, let them do it as long as they want at least they’re not partying!”

it’s a holiday that everyone should celebrate let them go.”

We are a small town. What else do they have to do that’s productive? Disrespectful kids are everywhere let’s not penalize the good kids.”

No and cut off should be when you qualify for social security.”

No

12-13 years old should be the cut-off. We’ve had multiple teens for multiple years now, not being aware of the littles and either running them over or cut in front of them to get to the candy first. As a parent, it gets very frustrating.”

When they are in High School they are too old!”

I’d say 13ish is about the oldest you should let your kids trick or treat. Unless they’re walking around with younger siblings that’s the exception.  If they’re older than that and aren’t with kids then they don’t get candy at my door, I’ll give em some super boring life advice!”

6th graders; age 11 or 12.”
