The Special Use Purpose Sales Tax, known as the 6th Penny, failed to gain the majority vote in the November 5 General Election.
According to results released by the Lincoln County Clerk’s Office, the measure received a total of 6,712 votes against the tax compared to 3,620 votes for the tax for a total of 10,332 votes. Voters in all of Lincoln County voted for the measure, which would have temporarily increased the county sales tax from 5% to 6% to pay for special projects proposed by each incorporated municipality.
While the tax measure did receive a majority of support form voters in Cokeville southern Lincoln County, it failed by a wide margin in Star Valley. With Star Valley only voters, the measure failed by a vote of 2,300 in favor and 5,656 against. That margin was to much for southern Lincoln County who voted in favor of the tax 1,320 for to 1,056 against.
