• Several acts garnered All-State honors
Thirty-six Star Valley High School drama students attended the State Thespian Festival in Laramie December 6-7. Several acts earned All-State awards and Honorable Mention awards, with each student participating in two to four categories.
“There were some awesome surprises and some that I feel should have scored better based on their performances,” said Tami Nielsen, SVHS Drama Coach, in a message to SVI Media. “It all comes down to which judge they were assigned to. As a judge myself, I know how hard it is. Every judge is looking for different things and has different opinions.”
Of the 27 performing acts, SVHS received 13 All State Honors, scoring 36-40 points with the act, and 11 Honorable Mentions awards, scoring 32-36 points on the act.
“We also took some technical theater students for the first time ever,” said Nielsen. Dane Hepworth served as coach for the Stage Tech entries. “They did awesome [even though they didn’t know] what to expect.”
Nielsen is very pleased with each student’s performance and hard work. She believes that SVHS students are extremely gifted and are willing to do what it takes to excel in their craft. “I may live a whirlwind of a life, but I sure love all the things I do and all the people I get to do them with! These kids are just so fun and great!”
