Bomgaars acquires Afton store

According to information provided by Bomgaars, the 36,000 square foot store will employ approximately 15-20 people from the local area.The store is currently scheduled to open for business in early November.

◆ New store to open in Shopko building.

The former Shopko Hometown building in Afton has new owners. Bomgaars Supply, a farm and ranch chain based in Sioux City, Iowa recently purchased the building.

According to information provided by Bomgaars, the 36,000 square foot store will employ approximately 15-20 people from the local area.The store is currently scheduled to open for business in early November.

“Bomgaars is a fourth-generation company, privately owned by Roger and Jane Bomgaars,” said Heather Korbe, director of marketing for Bomgaars Supply Inc. “The corporate office and distribution center is headquartered in Sioux City, Iowa, where the company originated in 1952. Over the past 68 years Bomgaars has reinvested in the company to construct new buildings, enlarge or renovate existing ones and add locations as opportunities present themselves.”

“With 94 stores currently in Iowa, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado, Wyoming and Idaho, the company has approximately 2,500 employees,” Korbe added.

According to information provided by Bomgaars, major departments at all stores include: Lawn and Garden plus Nursery; Work and Family Clothing; Farm; Pet; Automotive; Electrical; Plumbing; Hardware; Housewares; and Toys.

“With over 80,000 items for farm, home, auto and family, the Bomgaars mission is to provide what you need, when you need it,” said Korbe.

An employment application and interview day for Bomgaars has been set up for Wednesday, August 26 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Afton Civic Center.
