• 16th Annual Braves Brawl starts Friday afternoon.

The 16th Annual Braves Brawl is scheduled to begin at 3:01 on Friday and then resume at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday morning.

According to head coach Eddie Clark, the team is ready to start getting physical with other teams after hitting each other for the past three weeks. There will be some decisions out of caution however.

“Tel Parry got hurt a little bit so we’re going to sit him out this week,” Clark said. “The weight certification will take us some time to get things worked out. We’re not done with wrestle-offs yet so I’m sure who will be there. For us [the tournament is] just a starting point to figure out where we’re at and move forward.”

The teams scheduled to attend are generally perennial contenders and the action should reflect that.

Those other schools scheduled to attend and compete include Shelley, Logan, Thunder Ridge, Cokeville, Sugar-Salem, Skyview and Teton.

“We haven’t seen Teton in a dual for years so it will be nice to see them again,” he said. “They will be solid. Sugar is good as always. Skyview will be better. I think it will be good to get the kids out and wrestle someone else after three weeks of beating on each other. Get our feet wet and go from there. It’s always fun to get out and see where we’re at. Building for next week and hopefully be a little bit better.

The teams will compete at the following weights: 106, 113, 120, 126, 132, 138, 144, 150, 157, 165, 175, 190, 215 and 285. Live results will be provide by trackwrestling.com.

Eagle-eyed readers will notice the weight classes have changed slightly with one larger weight class (182) now gone and more added into the middle of the range. The changes stem from more grapplers in the middle of the weight classes nationwide. This will also affect the Brawl with the format now a round-robin style rather than a dual-format.

Junior varsity matches will take place in the Auxiliary Gym. SVI Media will have a watch link for varsity matches at SVInews.com.
