Braves rout Riverton in 56-6 romp

Playing against a Wyoming opponent for the first time in the 2023 season, the Braves wanted to make a statement and by the time the final buzzer sounded the final score of 56-6 was likely to do just that.

Star Valley put up huge chunks of yardage starting with their first play from scrimmage, a 54-yard touchdown run from Mali Patterson. Bryson Nield had 100 yards and two touchdowns on three catches in the first half alone and the Braves scored on every possession of the second half in the rout. Jesse Leavitt, Cooper Lancaster and Hayden Morgan had second-half rushing touchdowns and Kash Lancaster returned an interception for a score and caught a touchdown pass on offense. Wylie Wilkes finished with 114 total yards. Overall the team piled up 499 yards on offense.

The defense clamped down on the Wolverines in the second half and forced a total of three turnovers with Lane Wiebelhaus collecting an interception and Kanyon Hurd recovered a fumble sent to the turf from a Clay Merritt sack-fumble.

The win improved Star Valley’s record to 3-1 as they now prepare for their third game in a four-game homestead with the Evanston Red Devils coming to Afton next week for Homecoming.
