Code Red canceled in Kemmerer following traffic stop

A Code Red alert that was initiated by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office early in the morning Sunday was shortly canceled afterwards.

The alert was issued at 2:20 a.m. December 18, stating that the sheriff’s office was on the lookout for a male suspect last seen in the area of Canyon Road and Del Rio in the Kemmerer/Diamondville area. The suspect was described as having long dark hair, and was last seen wearing a dark coat, blue jeans, and a beanie hat. Residents were encouraged to not approach the suspect if seen but contact law enforcement and keep vehicles and homes locked.

The alert was canceled at 3:35 a.m.

Captain Brian Andrews with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office told SVI News that the Code Red was initiated after a deputy made a traffic stop and the suspect fled on foot. Andrews said they were able to locate the suspect with a drone, but he would run again every time officers got close. As a precaution the Code Red was initiated to alert residents in the area. According to Andrews, after officers identified the suspect and became confident that there was no danger to the public the alert was canceled.

The Lincoln Count Sheriff’s Office is currently working with the Lincoln County Attorney’s Office on the case. Further details will be announced as they become available.
