Dry-Bar comedian Keith Barany is scheduled to present a PG comedy show at the Ford Theatre in Afton as part of the Salt River Arts Date Night Series on Saturday, November 12 at 7 p.m. Presented in partnership with Artisan Chef, the evening also includes a vanilla bean cheesecake mousse with orange compote with each ticket.
Barany has written script for “Seinfeld,” “Politically Incorrect,” “The 2004 Emmy’s” and “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and has toured all over the nation and entertained troops overseas. The New York Post has called him “A fresh, original, brilliant, comedic voice. The wittiest comedian working in the US.”
According to his website, kb-entertainment.com, Barany “spends most of his time restoring people’s beliefs that tasteful comedy exists.” With fifty years of high-level experience in the comedy entertainment industry, he treats audiences with clean commentary about everyday experiences and enjoys coming to places like Afton.
“I was raised in Manhattan, New York, but the facial twitch I developed from that experience is almost completely gone,” Barany joked in an interview with SVI News by email last week. On a more serious note, he talked about his career choice and the standards that govern his content.
“Comedy seemed like a place where you could speak the truth…I believe that…I believe that time behind the mic is a privilege, not a right; and certainly not a right for any crude uncreative open mic-er!!”
Knowing that he has the power to reshape an audience’s expectations for comedy – that it can be an excellent and clean entertainment experience – is one of his favorite things about his work. Barany never wanted to be famous, because he wants people to be real when he walks into a room.
“My strongest goal is to give ticket buyers value for their dollar. Keeping myself unknown makes that easier for me!” Though he has lived in Chicago, Las Vegas and all over California as an adult, Barany’s current home is northern Utah, where he operates a comedy agency that connects quality comedians with individuals and organizations seeking comedic entertainment that meets their personal content expectations. His people are “seasoned over decades and all smart, creative and worthy of the opportunity to perform for an attentive and engaged audience.”
