Community events organized for Veterans Day

• LCSD No. 2 recognizes military service on Friday.

A handful of community events have been organized to honor local veterans and their families this Saturday, November 11 for Veterans Day. In addition, all schools in Lincoln County School District No. 2 will hold a special event for Veterans Day.

On Thursday, November 9 inside LCSD No. 2, Veterans Day recognition will begin at 8:00 a.m. at Etna Elementary where Principal Saltzman will share his 12 years of experience as a Crew Chief in the U.S. Air Force. Star Valley High School will also begin at 8:00 a.m. where Todd Miller will be a guest speaker. Miller served in the Air Force as a pilot of a F-15 E Strike Eagle.

At 9:00 a.m. Chief Zackary Walker will share his Army aircraft experiences at Thayne Elementary, including flying a Blackhawk. At 9:30 a.m. Star Valley Middle School will welcome Veteran JC Inskeep as a guest speaker. Inskeep served as a Combat Engineer from 1990-1993.

Osmond Elementary’s Veterans Day event will begin at 10:00 a.m. All veterans are invited to attend for a presentation of the colors, National Anthem and a variety of guest speakers. Cokeville Elementary’s Veterans Day event will also begin at 10:00 a.m. with music and recognition for veterans.

Afton Elementary will welcome Veterans Justin and Allison Day as their guest speakers at 11:00 a.m. Swift Creek High School will have an assembly at 12:30 p.m. where veterans will be honored for their service, followed by a Q&A.

Around the community, Skyview Lanes in Afton will host a Bowling Fundraiser with all proceeds benefiting local veterans. More information on this event can be found on page 1B.

Finally, The American Legion Post 46 in Alpine invites all community members to their Veterans Day free pancake breakfast this Saturday. The free breakfast will be served to the entire community in honor of all veterans who have served. The breakfast will take place from 8-11 a.m. at the Alpine Civic Center.
