Culvert Replacement on Roads in Greys River Area of Bridger-Teton National Forest

Afton, Wyo., October 2, 2019 – The Bridger-Teton National Forest will temporarily close roads in the upper Greys River drainage during a two-week period beginning October 9, 2019 to complete a bridge installation and three culvert replacements.

As part of a multi-year project to improve road infrastructure and stream passage for native Snake River Fine Spotted Cutthroat Trout, culvert replacement construction will occur on Mink and Clear Creeks on the Greys River Ranger District. This work will provide better haul routes for harvesting timber, connect 21.3-miles of currently inaccessible spawning and rearing habitat, as well as reduce the risk of future road failures and reduce sedimentation into the Greys River.

Temporary road closures in the upper Greys River drainage in early October include:

The Shale Creek Road (Forest Service Road 10126) with up to a 4-day temporary closure for culvert removal and bridge installation

The Greys River Road (Forest Service Road 10138) at Mink Creek and Clear Creek with a temporary closure for up to 4-hours to place culverts

The Forest Service Road 10171 at the Greys River crossing with a temporary closure for up to 4-hours to place culvert

For hunters and recreationists in the Greys River headwaters, travelers should consider alternative routes, including access over Sheep Pass via the Smiths Fork Road (FS 10072) or from the Tri-Basin area along the Greys River road (FS 10138). The public should also be aware that construction traffic could slow travel through these areas.
